I would like to know is there any evidences on how improved governance of local institutions (such as cooperatives, farmer groups, forest groups, irrigation groups and other self-help groups) contributes to livelihoods improvement of poor. Great, if I can receive any publications around it.

Book Community Governance Practices
Logically one could assume that such is happening, but thre details are what matters. Poor people are often not able to express their concerns, NGOs not always represent them in a prpoper way, and they remain margianlized even when proper processes are followed. So governance in a formal sense is often not enough, what is needed is empowerment, which is actually different from governance.
