I am a doctoral student and I am looking to do a qualitative research study that looks at the potential influence of teachers on the way minority students view their leadership capabilities.
Originally, I had chosen a grounded theory approach, but my committee thinks that an approach that looks at the intersectionality of the various factors may be more appropriate.
I am thinking of doing a narrative inquiry approach with phenomenological methods or maybe even a narrative inquiry approach with ethnographic methods.
Any pointers?

First, I have to say that I don't see any reason why grounded theory couldn't be used to examine intersectionality, but I would also say that there is no point in arguing with your committee.
Second, I am not sure how well phenomenology mixes with narrative. In particular, phenomenology usually presents an in-depth interpretation of meaningful experiences at a broad level that affects the participants' lives as a whole. In contrast, narrative analysis frequently does an intense examination of relatively short statements to examine the specific ways that they express something.
Hannah - I agree with David on phenomenology. In this scenario - that leaves you with ethnography. The beauty of ethnography, while labour-intensive, is that it can draw on a range of data collection methods - mainly observation - but you can 'squeeze in' narrative narrative review through say existing documentation - as long as the documentation is narrative and not just stats and facts.
I don't think that it is necessary to move to full-scale ethnography, which is going to be especially difficult in these socially distanced times. Instead, I believe that a combination of in-depth, semi-structured interviewing and thematic analysis would be a good way to study this topic.
