I saw few researchers used -2 -1 0 +1 +2 scale for 5 point Likert scale which makes sense to me (“Neutral” is given 0 points, “Agree Slightly” is given 1, “Agree Strongly” is given 2. On the other side, “Disagree Slightly” is given -1, “Disagree Very Much” is given -2). Example above contains same number of positive and negative values, as well as a zero (“neutral”) value that allows respondents to withhold their opinion.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find any reference for that! Is anyone aware of any references?
