Am I supposed to test the relationship between the independent variable and the mediator and then between the mediator and the dependent variable?

X -> Y -> Z

X is the independent variable, Y the mediator, and Z the dependent variable.

Am I supposed to test all the below hypotheses?

1) X has a positive correlation with Y.

2) Y has a positive correlation with Z.

3) X has a positive correlation with Z.

Hence, if the three hypotheses tested positive, we conclude that X has a positive correlation with Z as mediated by Y?

It is not necessary unless you have set it up in your hypotheses. Most siftware can straightaway test. mediation.
