Agrobacterium tumefaciens can cause diseases of annual crops - cabbage, beet, carrot, but those diseases occure in field in Russia and Ukraine once in several years. Is there any examples of more frequent diseases of annual crops caused by At?
Hi, Alex, the most sensitive to Agrabacterium is a garpe. Other species much less sensitive because of its physiology. So, only in the case of the grape Agrabacterium infection lead to significant lost of productivity. In the other species such problem come only under unfavorable environmental conditions.
Taras, thank you! In grape-producing areas or Ukraine and Russia At make harm mostly by reducing overwintering of young plants. It is present in greenhouses with ornamental crops (roses) around Moscow and St. Petersb.
Most recent outbreak on field crops was about 5 years ago in Ukraine.
Root mat disease has been found before at UK and France, but at 2013 it was "imported" to Russia and Kazakhstan and caused huge losses in new greenhouses with European technology. The disease was associated with plasmid transmittable across Alfa-proteobacteria
Harm from At was increased in recent years in fruit tree nurseries at the South of Russia and Ukraine, but It can be caused by application of A. rizogenes for rooting shoots of fruit trees to produce cheapjack young plants without grafting . Such plants donot survive over 1-2 winters.
Hi, Alex, I agree with you, modern greenhouse technology require high fertilizer amount, high humidity and many other factors which significantly increasing risk of the patheogen infection because of alteration in phytohormonal balance and, fianly, relatively high hormones level. This, in turn, increasing the probablity for induction of unorginized growth.
