Which way to go and where does it leave the smallholder farmers? More often than not, smallholder farmers are accused of the failures of most technologies or innovations delivered to them that attempts to transform the agricultural sector. In some literature, they are labeled as "backwards", "obtuse", etc. But is it the issue of the smallholder farmers that fails these innovations that are being promoted or is it something to do with the innovations themselves and those that promote them? Further, do we have to completely do away with IK and throw it in the dust bin of history for the so called "modern technologies?"
