I have a Network and want to start simulation. Some paper applied and suggested ABM simulation. Do you think this simulation is appropriate? Do you have other suggestion?
One of the attractive simulation for magazines or writing articles is ABM because there are fewer paper than other approaches.Recently, agent based modelling has been applied to various domains and I think you can apply this kind of simulation.
In spite of all descriptions about ABM, I think system dynamic (SD) is better than ABM in network issues because of some reasons like being dynamic, accuracy, flexibility ..etc.
I think you first need to define what you want to study. Are you studying the interactions of the stakeholders in the network, their emerging behavior and interactions? Are you researching their heterogeneity and how they impact the network? If so, then definitely use ABM to simulate such agents/stakeholders/entities.
If your research question is regarding the interdependence of the network's elements, or flow from one node to the other (information, resources, etc.), or the dynamics of the network, then use System Dynamics.
If the stochastic nature of the network and its impact on the network's performance is what you are investigating, then maybe a simple discrete event simulation would be the best approach.
I have a supply network (Tier 1,2 and 3 and their connections). I am looking to measure the resilience level when any disruption happen for one of the nodes (suppliers). Based on my network connection find the best strategies to increase the resilience level.
Based on your comments, I think System Dynamics can be a good option.
