It seems world agriculture and food will be dramatically affected by Covid-19. Rather than exports, probably every country will cling to its own resources. I am very curious about what will happen to fisheries and aquaculture (fish meal and fish oil prices).
Germicidal sprays with quality control measures to make sure that any food (vegetable, fruit, meat, sea-food, and poultry products) are free of coronavirus or any other infection , is becoming, or will become a standard operating procedure(SOP) in the times COVID-19 pandemic and afterwards.
This, coupled with import and export issues, supply and demand, is already pushing the prices of food upwards and will definitely keep the prices up in the future.
Hello Ilhan; In the USA the food supply is jeopardized by field labor shortages and Covid outbreaks in meat processing plants. In California most vegetable and fruit crops are planted and harvested by immigrant labor. The US immigration laws now mostly exclude most of those laborers and housing those that do manage to immigrate is a serious disease hotspot. Crops are rotting in the field. Global demand for the seafood is keep on rising, Domestic consumption rate is also increasing with the growing awareness on the nutritional importance of fishery products. Movement of raw material like fish meal were affected due to lockdown measures in India, However, authorities have taken the necessary steps to ease the transportation and price control of shrimp feed. I hope the price fluctuations will stabilize.
Definitely the price of foods would be astronomically high and looking at fisheries and aquaculture food products it would be seriously affected. Even if the supply is available the money to procure the items might not be available and this can discourage the fish farmer who has spent so much to raising the fish to appreciable size without seeing market.
In Nigeria, fish farmers would be forced to sell on credit and the demand might be low as many restaurant business owner would go bankruptcy due to the prolong lockdown which has prevent the business from operating over a long period...
