I'm actually thinking about the best way to measure implicit attitudes toward north-africans.
The study that I will conduct will use photographs of faces (north-african or caucasian faces).
I did not found lot of studies that used the SC-IAT to measure race-based attitudes, and found in the article of Karpinsky & Steinman (2006) that it's not a good idea to use photographs in the SC-IAT.
To avoid this problem, I was thinking about using the Affect Misattribution Procedure (Payne et al., 2005).
However, as this procedure is less used in the litterature than SC-IAT, is it a bad idea ?
There has been research that the Affect Misattribution Procedure does not truly relate to affect-based processes (instead, it relates to non-affect based ones). Thus, it is not a good substitute for the IAT. I would recommend using an appropriate form of the IAT after consultation with its authors at Harvard. They will be willing to assist you and answer questions.
I would recommend not using the IAT. There are methodological limitations with the IAT. Research coming out of a number of labs seriously challenge whether the IAT is provide a measure of attitudes (specifically, work coming out of both Fazio's lab and Mark Zanna's lab demonstrate that the IAT maybe measuring social norms rather than a person's attitude. Fazio's work specifically demonstrates that providing feedback when a person makes a "mistake" and the making of good/bad judgments can lead subjects to respond more based on societal stereotypes rather than based on their own attitudes.
If you do use the IAT with different photographs it is worth reading Judd, Westfall & Kenny (2012). They suggest to consider the photographs as a random factor in the statistical analysis. Otherwise, they say, the type I error increases drastically.

Agree. The photographs should definitely be considered a random factor, but that is easy enough to do. This is only a concern if you use a frequentist analysis, which I assume you are doing.
