Well, the rank in different countries is different... In France, and as far as you teach at a Business School - you will be referred to as a PROFESSOR.
Unfortunately, the titles do not indicate the knowledge or the status of the person - as we have seen - in some cases that some might be BESTOWED the professor title because they are needed in this administrative position - without going through the process of promotion!?
Professors might be great at teaching, but sessional or contract staff might also be great at teaching. Teaching has nothing to do with RANK but with PASSION towards the material being taught and COMPASSION towards the subjects at hand... the students.
@Aieman, remember when You were a student! When I was a student, I have preferred the famous Professors and their lectures! To me it always meant! I was happy to mention such professors in correlation with myself. When I was a Ph.D student in USA, these facts were very significant!
I would really like to agree with both comments above if only academic titles and teaching ability could be correlated together..
I do not mean to denigrate great teachers but simply stating the fact that measuring teaching ability with rank may not be very accurate.. In the 'modern' heirarchy of academia, many of us will go on to gain ranks far beyond our teaching abilities..

Teaching is passion and if somebody is taking it as serving profession than rank does not matter. but this is true that ranks also reflect the magnitude of experience of a person in an area with a grip over subject.
Here in public universities in the Northeastern United States, rank is a function of research proficiency, teaching ability notwithstanding (Theodora, take note). Ljubomir, I feel I worked hard to earn my rank of Full Professor, but also enjoyed teaching on all levels! Ayesha, it was a passion for me.
If lecture is taking by a very knowledgeable person then his rank does not matter - rank does not narrate all about skills and credentials, but rank may carry weightage of experiences of a person. as well as knowledge gained and disseminated.
Kuldeep, in medicine, a patient has more confidence in a physician who has been rewarded with material goods. In academics, a student has justifiably more confidence in a professor who enjoys high academic rank. Rank "does not narrate all," but it communicates much more than you realize, both on a conscious and on a subconscious level.
If the person is skillful it is welcome by both the teachers and students. But still then in my opinion rank matters as it carries the weightage of experience of a person.
Normally a higher academic rank means the person is accomplished in the field. Therefore, if one is looking for depth in a subject and deep insight academic rank matters.
