I came across a scammer who sent DMs to people who wanted to establish an academic environment and try to make friends with academics. A man introduces himself as a woman and says that "Researchgate recommended your profile to me and I followed you" and first communicates by sending a DM. Then he introduces himself as a tourist and asks for your WhatsApp. He exploits our cultural feelings. Then, he talks about academic subjects or the culture he lives in or different subjects for 3 days. The only thing he talks about after the three day is USDT defi investments,He shares fake screenshot about the USDT coins he earned and expects us to believe them. Maybe Coins he defrauded from others, maybe they are fake coins called scam coins or Maybe he changed it from the review tab on Google, I don't know. If you don't accept and believe he disappears after 3 days. I advise you to be careful with such people Don't waste your time on these scammers.

I have encountered 5 messages so far. All messages were without subject. All pretended that they are from Mainland China migrated to US to match my Chinese ethnicity. I reported to Researchgate but they have a very long process to make a reports on fake profiles. I blocked all these messages. Out of the 5, 3 profiles were deleted. Just block them on the messages, but it does not solve the root problem. Hope Researchgate admin is reading this.
I got similar message few days ago. Just realized this might be a scam. He/she pretended as Chinese student currently studying in US. She pretended to be interested in my research topic, and ask for Whatsapp number
The account I mentioned was closed in line with the complaint, but there are still many fraudulent and time-wasting accounts.
And yes, similarly, she started to talk about blockchain technology. I guess, she will talk about cryptocurrency in the following chats
I want to inform that there is yet another wave of scammers creating accounts on Researchgate, and starting to follow users. Watch out for these signs: (1) Chinese female; (2) profile with no publication; (3) young and attractive profile photos (and sometimes seductive poses); and (4) research areas that has little or no connection to yours. If you suddenly has a string of followers that fit what I just described, you are now one of their targets. Other telltale signs, “I just moved to US…..”, “Your research looks very interesting and I like to learn more….”, “I read your profile and find it interesting.” Do not reply these “Chinese females”, they are probably men….
