AAV production or AAV vector?

When AAV is produced in HEK cells, the helper gene, plasmid carrying packing system, and trans gene are used. AAV carrying trans gene is produced in a package. But, we also use AAV as a plasmid in which AAV backbone is opened by digestion with Restrictio enzyme and then the gene is inserted and ligation is done. So what is the difference between them?
