First, I select a reference in Endnote, then I click on Insert. It does not export to my word file, instead, this message appears: There are no references to show in this view.
I also tried another procedure. In word file, I select the place of the reference then I go to EndNote page and select the reference, then I use Alt+2. The selected reference will appear in my word file but it is with a # and a number like the following. And it looks as I typed it manually.

Why don't you use Endnote tab in word to insert citation? It is much easier.
Just click on "Insert citation" (I attached an image) and type a part of title, author name, etc. of the article you want to cite, find it and click insert.
About your 2nd problem, I think it is because of your citation style. You can also see the citation style part in the image I attached. Have you tried changing your citation style (to Vancouver, for example)?
I often apply the suggestion offered by Mr. Khadiheh Jafari. That works for me perfectly.
Keep your instant formating on or update bibliography and citation, then the # will disappear and your source will be properly cited.
