I thought that the question of hidden variables had been definitely laid to rest, both by Gleason's theorem and by the work of Colbeck and Renner in Zürich, but I''ve come across recent mentions of 'the possibility of hidden variables'.

My understanding is that:

- local hidden variables are ruled out, they simply cannot exist

- non-local hidden variables, even if they could exist, would not be able to solve any of the issues they could be invoked for

Is your understanding any different ?
