Locals (Mubi town, Nigeria) say they never use neem (Azadirachta indica) wood until it has stayed for over a year; shorter times result in similar fate to what happened to the lady. This has not been reported in any literature I have seen so far.
That's right . you know these types of trees containing varieties of toxic organic material . These molecules decomposed during fire to produce volatile compounds which causes coma due to inhalation poisoning.
Neem tree is an invaluable medicinal tree in South Asia. Neem tree thin stems are used by villagers as a substitute for plastic tooth brush (the young stems are very fibrous). Ripe neem fruits are edible, although the seeds are very bitter. One cannot conclude anything from one single observation.
Me too agree with Jay Siddharth and Alaa J Mahrath. It is also important to note down the environment condition in which she was cooking. Was it in open place or a close place in which no circulation of air. In closed place case of CO will be more prominent.
Neem tree, as said by Farroq, its invaluable and capable of curing many diseases and infections. any how during burning the fumes given by it irritates.. but i dont think it is the cause. as even the fumes are used as the treatment in some areas. may be because of the fumes generated during burning she must felt suffocation and also it needs to be check where she has burnt it, whether in the closed area or open. even this also should be considered
Many a times neem leaves (by burning) are used as insect repellent. The reason might be different for the collapse. It may be due to the suffocation due to fumes (not necessary it was CO).
