South Africa's President has announced that a delegation of African leaders, including South Africa, Zambia, Senegal, Congo, Uganda, and Egypt, will travel to Russia and Ukraine to present a peace plan for the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Russia and Ukraine have agreed to receive the mission. We should appreciate any efforts toward resolving the conflict.
At the same time, this initiative aims to address the indirect impact of the conflict on Africa, such as food security and rising prices of essential commodities, etc.
The reason is not far fetched. One, the world is a global village in the sense that what ever happens anywhere has a direct or indirect effect on the others. Russia and Ukraine are heavy exporters of agricultural products to many countries including the African continent.
Secondly, Africa has been relinquished to the background in world politics and in this context in playing significant role in world peace and mediations in that regard. So, this, is an opportunity for them to rise to the occasion and show that it is still an active and formidable player and an actor in international business or politics.
In the case of South Africa, given the fact that they have been accused (without evidence) of planning to send arms to Russia in the face of their (Russia's) military action cum war in Ukraine, it is an ample opportunity to stake the claim that they stand for peace in Europe.
My point remains that South Africa sent arms to Russia and seems unlikely on that basis to take a neutral position. If the group insists on Russia laying down its weapons and leaving Ukraine, peace is possible, if they do not they are wasting the world's time.
If South Africa (or other African countries) would be supporting Ukraine from the beginning they'd gotten more than now trying to stop the war.
For those who are still living on another planet (it seems many still are) Russia is not the state anymore, it's the terrorist authority and there will be no more Russia, so be prepared for the new world without Ruzzia, terrorist will be held accountable.
Michael, I agree with you but this is a concern with the BRIC states. I have suggested that these states by linking themselves to Russia, a failed state, could and indeed will cause themselves problems later on. I pointed out the quandary that Russia is not a superstate but gains its influence as a terrorist state like Iran. Placing themselves under its leadership is a one way street that leads to failure.
Although my position has no world importance, I used to respect India but now no longer do. Its disappointing that states heading towards economic influence should lack morality.
