As we know all the journals listed in UGC care list are eligible for academic purposes like promotion in job or in recruitment; but about the book there is no clear-cut system for books. So please answer me if there is any provision or not.
A book or book chapter does carry some weight, especially if there was some form of peer review. South African Universities receive subsidy for book chapters from the government in the same way they receive subsidy for accredited journal articles. 1 book chapter or 1 journal article = 1 research output unit, so a single book chapter is equivalent to a journal article, and therefore receives analogous recognition.
The ISB Number is just an identifier for a book (like ISS Number for a journal or DOI for an electronic publication) and has nothing to do with quality. - The importance of a book or a book chapter depends also on the field of research. In social sciences, a large amount of research is published in books. In any case, if you are able to publish a monograph (i.e. a complete book on a topic) in your field, this will have a large weight in your list of publications.
Books are potentially good sources of information as subject experts have examined the available research and considered it in relation to the wider context at the time they wrote their part. This often leads to them proposing explanatory theories and frameworks. This is then generally reviewed by a peer prior to publication. As with research articles you need to consider the quality of the publication and any endorsements it has had in making your own mind up on its usefulness.
ISBN is essentially a product identifier used by publishers, booksellers, libraries, internet retailers and other supply chain participants for ordering, listing, sales records and stock control purposes. The ISBN identifies the registrant as well as the specific title, edition and format.
As journals and other publications have Impact Factors so also academic book publishers have ranking
A book with ISBN is valid and it is accepted for the recruitment process. However, scholars in their respective discipline knows which publisher is standard one and which is not? Two things are always crucial for book publication. One is knowledge that we contribute to the existing discipline and second one is standard publisher @ Nihar Ranjan Mohanty
