The combined acetone fractions are evaporated to 1/3 volume and partition with 5% NaHCO3. The aqueous layers are acidified with 2M HCl till pH=2 then re-extract with hexane. Dry over Na2SO4 and evaporate in vacuo. Reconstitute in acetone and evaporate under Ar.

From my experience, by applying the above mentioned method, it is not possible to get 90% purity in carnosic acid. The acetone extract contains extracts which react with alkali and will precipitate when it is acidified. So the purity will be low.

I just wanna ask that if we can use the method of acetone fractions for all type of terpenoids or just for diterpenes like carsolic acid
