Is there any theory or logic to fix 2nd order construct as formative and reflective. As at first order discriminant validity has established so it can be clue that the 2nd order is formative if not what can be idea to set 2nd order reflective or formative. I saw so many scale like Organisation commitement having three dimension ( AC, CC, NC). Are these cause or reflection of OC at higher order ? Further if we want calculte utility then expectancy and value are these cause utility or reflection of utility at 2nd order ?

According to me a higher order construct is reflective always untill we have theoretical evidence to prove that the given factors are the only (fixed)factors of the construct as per the theory. Like service quality factors of Parsuraman.
may be we have to decide reflection or cause of indicator. A theory always open to add some new things.....even formative construct has hidden error....
