Hello i am a communication major and i am doing a paper that would require answers from media practitioners or scholars.
I would not say "inevitably erode", but seems to me that "tends to" is a good assertion.
However, we are walking in a slow motion pace to 'an union', if we can say that there will be one!!!
"inevitably erode" may not be the case, especially if one still exist or live within one's culture or country, instead, people may tend to borrow from other cultures but not out rightly abandon theirs, especially since one has to deal with people within ones culture, participate in traditions, while not every one adopts foreign values, beliefs and traditions. Culture supermarket component of the global village may help. We have Indian themed church weddings, western themed birthday parties in Nigeria, but our traditional marriage is still very intact and the majority of Nigerians would disagree that it should be replaced with something else; maybe in the eastern part of Nigeria where it is said to be ridiculously expensive, but then, the replacement will still be based on traditional practices and not a foreign one. Even those born abroad are coming back home for the celebration or do it wherever they live in the world. Nevertheless, black-Friday is now a norm in Nigeria, but only because online stores are taking advantage of the commercial component and people are also getting good deals, and its a one off or a weekend affair. The tendency for culture to erode be minimized may be higher if one live abroad
Being a communications major, what is your take on McLuhan's Laws of Media? To me eroding culture/tradition difference has a negative connotation to a natural process of evolution.
