Does anyone know what could be the reason behind c. elegans worms disappearing from plates after treatment till reading the experiment?

we put lots of worms during treatment step but after 3 days while reading the experiement, we find very few worms.

I bleach c. elegans worms and receive lots of eggs but they do not hatch despite using the exact same conditions that made them hatch before.
