Is there any app or easy method to calculate tree canopy cover?

I want to measure canopy area of nesting trees used by lesser adjutant stork. It nests on trees of height above 15 meter in general. Preferred tree is mostly the bombax ceiba (silk cotton) tree.

For assessment of the bird diversity, is there any rules such as the survey should be carried out for this number of days per month or not?
