What is the permeability of gold salts to bacterial cells? Can it penetrate to the periplasmic space?

I'm trying to synthesize gold NPs inside bacterial cells (now I work with E.coli) and wondering about the permeability of the gold salt (HAuCl4) to reach the periplasmic space. Thanks.
