Is there a solid theory to study how power influences stigma?

I thought social dominance theory might provide an alternative but this theory is ridden with controversy because of certain evolutionary claims that it makes.

Is anyone studying cultural differences in the norm of reciprocity? If so, how have you measured perception of obligation?

Do people believe that obligation is aversive as Gouldner (1960) claimed or do some people prefer benevolent gratitude?
