Does purity of chemical used to prepare 20X SSC, denaturation solution affect the results in the Southern Blot?

I am using DIG-Labeling kit from ROCHE. After digestion gDNA is looking like smear in gel. I am using the low grade chemicals (Nacl, Sodium citrate) for preparing the solutions.
