Potatoe pulp is a left-over piling up during starch production from potatoes. Often it is used as cattle feed. We found out that it can serve as a basis for a glue. Any more ideas?
Yes, it has been used to produce vermicompost on a commercial scale in Latvia. In fact, it is organically grown potato, from which organic starch has been produced. Pulp has been used for vermicomposting together with organically grown grass, The final product, vermicompost, has been used for fertilization of organic potato fields with good yield and starch content increase.
Thank you for your answer. Is the procedure still in use? Is a high amount of potato pulp piling up still a problem for starch industry as in former years? Do you have an idea what happens with potato pulp obtained from "conventionally" grown potato during starch production? I was told that farmers have to "take back" appropriate amounts of pulp depending on the amount of potatos that they deliver to the starch factory, and that part of it is then used as animal feed. Could this be dangerous for the animals? If so: what are the drawbacks for the animals and the quality of meat?
Yes, the system is in use here, at least, at "Aloja Starkelsen". The fact is, that in the case of organic production, farmers are willing to take back produced vermicopmpost as a good fertilizer. I am not so sure about conventional starch in respect to pulp use, but you can contact the producers: http://gaha.eu/en/ and http://alojas.eu/en/
