Evaluation of the teacher by institute , when they recruit any teachers only after their evaluation as per their expertise mode of matching for the purpose of the recruitment .

Generally a good academic institute they are totally professionally managed & with our present trend they are very well known professional institute who are imparting their training program for certain time & in this line also certain institute take the opportunity send their teacher for such program .

i don't think a knowledge test will do any good to make them better teachers. It is HOW they teach that make teachers better and they learn that from their teaching experience.

I understand the point of this question, because I am aware of problems many students have with particular instructors. Usually instructors get a "test" when they apply to become permanent (get tenure). If they show poor evaluations from students or have not attended conferences and written papers, they will fail to get tenure and may be dismissed when there are personnel cuts in their departments.

I suggest instead of testing the knowledge, sharing of knowledge will be beneficial, which may may bring more synergy and development.

Sincerely I doubt about the benefit of testing teacher's knowledge by tests. The teacher is not an information-giver, he is a model of education in all aspects. Teachers are leaders; if we do them to be professional , we must give the space; nurture greatness, respect them, challenge them, give them tools to success and of course they have to be paid properly. So, according to my opinion, the better way to motivate them is to create a healthy competitive environment, when who do better is ranked higher by students and among the colleagues. All other ways, only harm teacher motivation, making him uninterested to progress and kill their passion. Above the all, teaching is a passion, and passion can be nurtured with esteem and encourage.

Bad idea. You can never test the knowledge and experience gained through a written test.

Yes, Continuous process is good for learning but the following issues have to be considered:

1. Teacher and students must in engaged with

2. Panic within the students

3. Psychological/motivational disorder may be occurred.

4. Students don't have much time for amusement.

5. If anyone miss the assessment , gets poor marks in the exams.

Checking the knowledge and skills of teachers is not a task to be left to their employers or pertinent authorities, though this could be done through a formal exam at a given period of time (which I think is costly, time- taking and not always effective). It should also be viewed in terms of the individual efforts of teachers themselves who should keep abreast of new demands and challenges. I think what we have in schools and higher institutions in the form of student evaluation, peer evaluation, personal development, etc are part of the mechanisms of evaluating teachers on continuous basis. Where such schemes are strengthened, I don't see the need for an externally imposed formal evaluation system which could be considered by teachers as redundant and unacceptable.

I believe mere theoretical knowledge is not enough for teaching where the subject is technical and realistic. Like management and cost accounting and taxation disciplines, the mentors should have practical exposure through corporate linkage where they can gather a lot of practical experiences and bring it into their class room. Yet they can be tested continuously through written test.

Overt and intrusive tests may have outlived their utility. I would think an anonymous 360 degree appraisal by superiors, peers, and students may be a good idea, followed by mature feedback and discrete follow up to enable the teacher for better delivery will help. Of course, empathy towards availability of teacher resources, working conditions and remuneration are a must (you give peanuts, you get monkeys!)

I agree with Digbijaya, but you would need a climate that is free of conflict or professional envy in order for a balanced evaluation to be done. The latter is not always possible, so checks and balances must be put in place if negative feedback is given without providing the validated evidence to support such feedback.

However in every profession , human beings have their individual norms sometimes without moral codes & ethics for such individual even if I come to know in any source I wish to remain silent observe & do not desire to keep my mind in their thinking phase .

I support your idea that teachers should be evaluated trough test in one way. For an other way I doubt because a teacher is just a facilitator, he/ she is supposed to guide the researcher students at higher studies. I think the methods of teaching here should be questioned. I don’t think it will be a good Idea to evaluate the knowledge of the professors for many reasons, However, in order to make sure that the learning process is fruitful for the students, you can simply develop a good quality assurance system or even policies. It may involves several components, including the effective design of curriculum and course content, a variety of learning contexts (including guided independent study, project-based learning, , etc.), using feedback, and effective assessment of learning outcomes. By doing so, I do believe you will force indirectly those teachers to update their knowledge.

Evaluation process is necessary for further development of knowledge to individuals in academia. However, I agree with Haitham Hmoud Alshibly , to some extent in context that not merely knowledge, but love to students and their outcomes - are also necessary. Therefore learning outcomes of students and feedback by them is also important.

Indians love their castes and sects, and sometimes have thought process based on their social identifications, at the place of truth and justice. Indians do not think about their S&T, as Chinese people do. We are dependent on foreign knowledge and technologies. Even our IITs are losing their ranks world-wide.

We have lost self-respect as a nation. Praising our ancient culture and civilization, is not enough.

Thanks for raising up this important issue. It is crucial that lecturers in charge of delivering knowledge to students_mainly at higher educational institutions_have to possess a solid theoretical background that is continuously updated. Yes, in some countries as Dr. Shibarata said, once a person is qualified to be a lecturer and till his retirement, no one evaluates him for the amount of knowledge that he has or the communication skills that he uses to deliver good teaching. However, in other countries, there have been new methods used recently including distributing evaluation guestionaire to the students and they have to answer and give their opinion about that particular lecturer. This student--based evaluation method is unfair in my opinion as a student who has failed in an examination you conducted may give you a low mark! So, I think that the best thing to do is always engage lecturers in different courses that ultimately improve their skills& enrich their basic knowledge. These courses have to be compulsory& may be ending with some kind of evaluation test. In addition, lecturers in a given department should be asked to join& participate in Continuous Education programs like CME& have to collect points (credits)& conduct high quality research. I'm not sure that I understand the question and the whole issue. We are evaluating our professors many times in their career - there are very demanding procedures for promotion of university teachers and that procedures includes research, pedagogical and professional work. I don't know is the same everywhere, but in my opinion - if these procedures are regularly applied - it's more than enough.

In India, none of these procedures are applied and a college/ university teacher once appointed by any mean ( may be trough quota or nepotism) are automatically promoted without any such barrier oe efficiency testing. There are some teachers who never took any theory class in whole of his/ her carrier!
