Dear all,
I am currently collecting studies for Brazil (Northeast), Iran, Sudan, Ecuador, and West Africa, in which parameterization physics (cumulus, microphysics, PBL, etc.) experiments have been conducted.
I already have found a few and additional knowledge from personal communications, but I would be happy if I could get a clearer picture. Background: I am going to conduct (convection permitting) simulations for these regions, and try to get a good starting point for additional experiments ....

In my opinion you should probably take model input parameters, like; domain or nest resolutions, rather than region. Region may indicate how frequent and long thunderstorms or heavy precipitation occur, does it has a continuous precipitation regime when considering in terms of convection.
Does your study includes shallow (for cumulus) or deep convection (for cumulonimbus)?
When we consider cumulus physics scheme, if you have domain which has lower resolution greater than > 10 km, you should probably need a convection permitting cumulus scheme. If you have higher resolution domain, you don't need to have a cumulus scheme since it is resolved by dynamics. If you have grey-zone (around 2-8 km grid resolution) domain you should do parametrization for corresponding event for better performance results.
Considering microphysics schemes, recently I have simulated a hailstorm (a supercell downdraft) event driven by deep convection doing microphysics parametrization which showed that Milbrandt-Yau has very effetive rainfall generation (outperformed WSM3, WSM6, WDM6, Thompson, Goddard, Morrison) with 9 km outer 3 km inner domain resolution for 2 different stations (2nd and 3rd were Goddard & WDM6 mp schemes).

Hi Patrick,
Our team finished running similar WRF experiments over Greater Horn of Africa Region a couple of months ago and we are are in the middle of analysis. We considered different combinations of CU, MP, PBL, SW and LW Radiation; two domains with 12km and 4km. The 4km covers Ethiopia while 12km extends to western Africa (i.e., covers Sudan). Simulations are done for summer season of 2002 and span 120 days (May-August). If you think the simulations can be of any use for your study, please shoot me an email.

this is certainly of high interest for our SaWaM project. I would be happy if you can share e.g. the control file that we can get a first guess parameterization setup for the Horn of Africa.
