University teaching is more Student Lead
The transition from secondary to Y1 undergraduate classes depends on the schools where students came from that the quality and competence of the secondary school teacher at High School. A well established good secondary school in Uganda uses interactive approaches to teaching which makes the students in charge of their learning process through debates, music, research in library, fieldwork, case studies, projects to name a few. Similarly at University a good lecturer will use interactive methods to help students and increase retention of what their learning. Alice Kagoda
I endorse Alice's comments. The transition from secondary school to University is definitely influenced by the secondary school experience. I know from my own experience, I chose a Catholic University for my undergraduate experience because I had only attended Catholic primary and secondary schools and was almost paranoid about going into a traditional university with thousands of different students. After that undergraduate experience I was able to branch out into a public University for my graduate studies.
