I work in the catalysis and want to use the iron carbide as catalyst for sulfuric acid decomposition. I need your suggestion. Will it work? I am afraid of its corrosive properties.
I share your concern: Iron carbides are known to stable under reductive conditions, e.g. during steel prosessing. They are discussed to be the active phase in Fischer-Tropsch catalysis, where they are formed in the presence of syngas (H2/ CO). Bringing together FexCy and H2SO4 will, for sure, result in iron oxide.
