There is this new mosquito-repellent cloth sticker batch containing a CO2-receptor activator, disrupting attraction by prolonged action on the cpA neuron (NATURE, June 2, 2011). It is supposedly out for field testing in Uganda now. The exact chemical was not mentioned, but it is not 2,3-butanedione to which it is structurally related. It seems simple, therefore, I was wondering, why this wasn’t discovered previously? Anyone fathoms WHAT it might contain? Would it work in field conditions?
