According to Rabinowitz, species can be classified according to their commonness and rarity based on 3 things: geographic range of species, habitat tolerance, and local population size. I am wondering whether or not there have been instances where a certain species has changed classification. If so, what are these species?
If it's a species whose population size or geographic range has been drastically affected by natural or anthropogenic disturbances, then if it's resilient enough, they can rebound in those aspects when the disturbance is significantly lessened or altogether removed.
I think that are some species, which (according to Rabinowitz) may be classified to all of the groups of rarity together. The best example is Asplenium adulterinum, a small fern, occurred only on in Europe (with one locality in Canada), strictly connected to serpentine rocks. All the known localities contains a few specimens, rarely more than one hundred. Classification to one of the "Rabinowitz's" groups depending from country. In Poland Asplenium adulterinum has got only 9 localities, has low habitat tolerance, and its total population is about 500 specimens.
