Chances are that I meet with a power failure while carrying out a Mizoroki-Heck-coupling reaction. The solution was cooled to room temp. before reheated to 100 oC, though the system was still in inert atomsphere. Would the catalyst remain effective or lose its activity?(for eg. Pd(dppf)Cl2)
Any experiences or references are welcome!
In my opinion, any catalyst will lose its activity. Just imaging, catalytic process as machine, it will lose its effectivity time by time. So, amount of reagent and products of the catalytic reaction will influence to the surface properties of catalyst.
atalyst lose its little activity when coupling reactions meet a pause on heating. Surface activity will be affected on taking pause.
I wonder, if there are any studies that proof deactivation? Because it's not obvious for me.
The coupling reaction with a catalyst begins at high temperature, decreasing the temperature the reactivity of the catalyst decreases but doesn't stop in short power failure, provided that the reaction conditions are not changed.
To my knowledge temperature pause do not influence much on catalyst deactivation but can only take a pause to the catalytic activity over the coupling reaction at the lower temperature? As soon as the temperature meets, the catalyst activity may again start to proceed.
I think it is no, if the catalyst is easy to lose its activity at 100℃, it is pointless to study on catalyst recovery（in most situation, the reaction temperature is higher than 100℃ before the catalyst recovery）
