Have you used word clouds in your research before? If yes, what do you report additionally to the word cloud graphic itself? Frequencies? Percentages? Are there any restrictions based the number of participants/length of the analyzed texts?
Feel free to share your experiences, I really want to integrate them into my research, I just don't know how (yet).

On the one hand, I do use the wordcloud tool of MAXQDA (https://www.maxqda.com/) in order to visualize the ratios of interesting terms/topics of my research, mainly explorative in nature. The terms to be included in the cloud can be selected manually. This helps to generate first hypotheses, which can be displayed and expanded in the corresponding text.
In workshops, on the other hand, I like using real-time wordclouds, as provided by Mentimeter (www.mentimeter.com), to visualize the actual diversity of e.g. participants, perspectives or problems, which often helps to underline the relevance of the workshop topic.
From my point of view, wordclouds can be very helpful to support the depiction of various research insights. The idea you want to deliver to your audience determines the additional information you should provide with the explanation of your graphic. The motivation for applying a tool should always be its appropriateness for fulfilling the given task.
