I think Photogrammetry is a very important branch, especially taking into account developments within Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). In my view, image measurements will be a very important part of future surveying profession.
Another important branch is laser scanning.
Considering the high accuracy deformation analysis studies you can perform with satellite RADAR, I'm surprised it doesn't get more press in the survey world. Ground Penetrating RADAR is really all you hear mentioned.
Similarly hyperspectral scanning has such power that it could be really useful for many fields. I suppose it is just more difficult to process than multispec.
The advances in technology brings the concept of division of labors to the surveying applications and practice. For example, we can use photogrammetry to do the corridor mapping for a new road. But at the construction stage you need a Total Station of RTK-GPS for Stake out. In other words, there is a very nice division of labor between photogrammetry and RTK-GPS or a Total Station. Now the answer to your depends on your specialization or your objectives.
