If you use aluminum 6082 alloy in a component for the satellite where the temperature can fluctuate from 180 to -160 C. Would the yield strength decrease over a period of 15 years in space?
Also, would the Elastic Limit change, if say the material is under compression of 200 MPa and deforms elastically at 0.2mm? Could this property change over the 15 year period due to temperature?
I agree with Jozef, you are going to run in to issues with over-aging the material. In addition, given your loading conditions, you may have a problem with creep. Check with the material producer to see if they have any long term elevated temperature exposure data available. You may want to look for an alloy where such data is available.
It depends upon the initial condition of the alloy. If it is heat treated for fully saturated state, the yield strength may not change. If its underaged , the yield strength could even increase.
