Will uploading a preprint of an research article affect the chances of acceptance or rejection of the article in the submitted journal?

Research gate provides an opportunity to make the preprint available for other researchers before publication in the journal. will uploading the preprint reduce the novelty of the paper and hence lead to rejection from the journal?
