Researchers at Ulsan National University of Science &Technology have developed a unique carbon capture system, that turns CO2 into electricity and fuel.
researchers reported a CO2 conversion efficiency of 50% with over 1000hrs. of run-time without causing any damage to the electrodes. This H2 will be used to refuel FCEV's at H2 refueling stations.
The fun part is, which this report doesn't tell you, that if the H2O, from which the H2 has actually been separated via this SOEC, has impurities, and then you put this H2 back to fuel an SOFC, the output product will be electricity and PURE H2O. So I think that Ulsan can go further and implement this as a water purification unit as well.

The new device, which the team calls a Hybrid Na-CO2 System, is basically a big liquid battery. A sodium metal anode is placed in an organic electrolyte, while the cathode is contained in an aqueous solution. The two liquids are separated by a sodium Super Ionic Conductor (NASICON) membrane.When CO2 is injected into the aqueous electrolyte, it reacts with the cathode, turning the solution more acidic, which in turn generates electricity and creates hydrogen. In tests, the team reported a CO2 conversion efficiency of 50 percent, and the system was stable enough to run for over 1,000 hours without causing any damage to the electrodes. Unlike other designs, it doesn't release any CO2 as a gas during normal operation – instead, the remaining half of the CO2 was recovered from the electrolyte as plain old baking soda.

Coming to the debate of a COMPLETELY GREEN manufacturing process, I think almost all systems at some level, still suffer from that. Wind turbines are using materials and manufacturing processes that are not carbon free, Solar PV cells have Chinese factories protesting over pollution in the river because of their waste, then there is toxicity problems related to the materials being used in solar cells , and do not even get me started on the toxicity of batteries.
I guess the aim needs to be to manage the main beast first, and then in doing so, develop processes within the supply chain to keep the green vision going, as we move towards completely renewable resources.

I would encourage you to highlight your points to the grantors and officials of this project. But again, the key to it will be the project PI or team leader. If you agree, I can send his details to you as of this second. I feel both parties can benefit from each other, and we can have a better solution rather than wondering WHAT COULD AND SHOULD have been done.

Not only sodium can use like anode but alloy,zinc and another much abundand metals, Na o K like acqueous electrolyte. I think that most important iusse is acid carbonic making ,could be before catode inlet, and dissociation efficiency in catodic halcell. This project are very interesting

Thanks for your mentioned Waqas, cathodic half cell is a place, separate with Nasicon or another PEM membrane by anodic half cell, wich make the reduction raction of H2. For achieve better efficiency is necessary use strong acids completely dissociated. H3CO2 is a wake acid and H2 reduction reaction is very low. In my experiments I achieved a good results using a strong acids
