I have to say that I'm impressed with the way the Bing chat thingy includes references.

In my opinion, if the answer is a scientific and the bot is used only to formulate the answer linguistically, there should be no problem if the author checks the bot's answer and if matchs his answer.

I tend to agree with Dr Mohamad Allaw that a lot of AI forms seem to be most useful for linguistic reasons. On the other hand, if Chat GPT (or others) are used for scientific purposes, would a human be needed to operate it? If so, what do they stand to gain?

If AI is going to "take over", wouldn't they have better things to do than RG? Such as weapons/warfare.

Following are the some of my thoughts about use of ChatGPT/ AI tools in answering on RG:

1. In my opinion such AI tools should be used as an assistant for solving any problems or questions outside research gate(RG). Here we need genuine human approach and multiple interaction for any asked questions or queries.

Anybody can take help from such AI tools but he/she should add his approach too in between and suggest accordingly. Just copying and pasting will diminish the uniqueness of RG.

2. On research gate we generally discuss any scientific problem, but sometimes AI generated answers may not fit properly for the further discussion as it finally concludes topic without asking further queries.

3. The AI generated answers may not be specific and will general every time. Comic part is if somebody ask specific cross question then it will be difficult for AI tool to answer properly.

4. If we have problems which requires multiple approaches/opinions, then it will not suggest the all possible approaches. This is the case where human intelligence/opinion is always needed. Even we humans are not as that intelligence.

5. ResearchGate platform is for discussing problems or queries related to research. It's not a one way question-answer session.

6. We(Researcher/ Scientist/ Advisors/ RG's member) should not use such platform for answering questions posted on RG. We can use it for self understanding of topic.

I also have noticed an increasing number of 'chatbot' answers here on RG in the last days.

These answers are very general, but often the content is repeated in different sections of the text without no real new content; so boring to read...

However, occasionally part of the answer is totally wrong/nonsens*) and is published here on RG by 'copy and paste' without any check for reliabilty...

Thus I recommend the questioneers here on RG, to re-check the reliability of the answers they have got here, before they 'believe' and trust that content...

You are right; the questioneer should start with ChatGPT (or something like that) to get general answers and even some references.

But I do not think that RG will be replaced by that. Special questions demand for a bit 'more' of intelligence, which I have not seen up to now in the AI-based answers here. 'Copying (from the internet) and pasting' into automatic answers by AI may work, but for drawing conclusions when special questions are involved, I am very skeptical...

I used to call out contributors on RG threads, each time I came across the use of Artificial Intelligence tools in generating responses. The question is: would you be comfortable reading on RG discussion threads replies produced by AI software? For my part, I would say: no problem, provided that, straight away I am informed via an appropriate warning, for instance: "This text is generated using ****". Then, I would do what I might do with it: zap it, refrain from continuing the discussion, or make a response via AI software. The last option seems interesting to me: it would actually involve replacing human conversation with machine conversation. What do you think?"
