Wildlife electrocution and animal-vehicle collisions in East Africa's protected areas are among the major causes of wildlife losses. Significant number of wildlife has been lost in all 3 major East African countries.
Which protected-area planning strategies can avert these wildlife resource loss?
The most effective way of averting wildlife resource loss is through the discontinuation of habitat fragmentation through road construction and establishment of zoning schemes for conservation, park designs and management consisting of core areas, where strict nature conservation is enforced, and areas where gradually more intensive human presence and activities are allowed.
If you look at reserves you might be able to focus more on wildlife, as they are kept for conservation.
Reserves at kenya. Civilisation towards the Republic Congo. Maybe the reserves near Egypt. And the reserves near SouthAfrica.
Areas where the elephants are, illegal hunting, lions and feline areas and maybe say areas where crocodiles are. Maybe due chains or pyramids of biomass
Minimizing the road networks and vehicular movements within and around protected areas could be of help.
Where there are major highways that cannot simply be averted, under-ground tunnels can be constructed as "eco-passages" to mitigate small animal road mortality. This has been proven to be effective around the world in various environments. Although I am less qualified in this area, I believe large animal mortality can be addressed with signage on the roads, public education, and if the infrastructure allows, overhead passes.

Locally we use small tunnels for frogs, salamanders and small mammals.
While a fence is built along the road, and at one point there's an opening with signs 'Animal crossing' and reduced speed.
As these cost less to make than the overhead or underground tunnels - I think it might be a solution for the area talked about here.

In road mortality of birds and other vertebrates, one of the main problems is caused by the high speed of cars in areas in which it's possible to reach such speed. In the Canaries there are very few papers about road mortality of vertebrates, but they show, e.g. in Lanzarote Island, that many species are affected by this problem. One of the bird species which is commonly found dead in roads of some islands (manly on Fuerteventura and Lanzarote) is the Eurasian Stone Curlew (Burhinus oedicnemus). In fact, road mortality and collision with electric power lines are among the main conservation problems for this species in our archipelago, together with the loss of habitat in some areas.
