In many power circuits having transformers, it is a common feature that the circuit provides isolation. we can also isolate the circuits using breakers during unwanted times which can also mitigate the fault operation. But, mostly transformers are preferred. Is there any specific reason for it?
Dear Venkat, you must on the one hand distinguish isolating transformer for potential separation and on the other hand transformer for electric power substation, Isolating transformer has the same input and output voltage. Transformer for electric power substation transform the voltage.
Using isolating transformer, only magnetic connection is permitted to circuit, not electrical, are used to suppress spike and transient, in circuit(T=L/R)..

I was not properly interpreted my query. My doubt is about why we need a transformer isolation in power circuits. But after your answer,I analysed myself. Yes It is really useful to use transformers. For example if I am using an auto-transformer or any other device for voltage transformation, then some of the portion will be in common to both the ports which may effect the change in characteristics/parameters of one side to the other side. where as in transformer, if there is change in parameter values of any side, the other side parameters will remain unchanged.

But, when we are using for high frequency application like solid state transformers or SMPS applications there voltages are of square waves nature and flux generated is triangular.
