We have studied the association between aggression and positive mental health, using the Brief Aggression Questionnaire (BAQ; Webster et al., 2014; DOI: 10.1002/ab.21507) and the Positive
Mental Health Scale (PMH; Lukat et al., 2016; DOI 10.1186/s40359-016-0111-x).
BAQ has four sub-factors- Physical, Verbal, Anger, Hostility. Here, the verbal aggression was positively correlated with mental health (PMH), other three factors were negatively correlated with PMH. The sample was 3145 university students, age range 17-27 yr (M= 22.07, SD= 1.74); Male= 1943 (61.8%).
However, the correlation between verbal aggression and PMH was inconsistent with theoretical background. But this correlation was consistent on an adult sample- N= 298, age range 30-65 yr (M= 41.05, SD= 7.88); Male= 159 (53.4%).
What would be the explanation behind the relation of verbal aggression and PMH in student sample?
