I am doing a review on magnetic separators used by metal and mineral industry. I found that magnetic separation offine ferromagnetic materials is mostly done by drum LIMS and pullies, etc but there is no commonly known matrix based LIMS whereas there are variety of MIMS and WHIMS. IS there any technical reasons for that ?
There are a few reasons why there are no commonly known matrix-based electromagnetic separators (LIMS):
- Complexity: LIMS would be more complex to design and manufacture than other types of electromagnetic separators, such as magnetic induction matrices (MIMS) and wet high-intensity magnetic separators (WHIMS). Thanks for answering the question but I am not agree with the resasons given.
(a) Complexity - Why it should be comples when low current and volatge is needed.
(b) Cost - It will need less power and wiring, so should not be costly. Of course will have high maintennace than Permroll but both will have different applications.
(c) Performace- It can bot be same, if LIMS will not capture the paramagnetic particles where as MIMS will capture all.
Let us assume we want to separate a mixture of metals (Fe, FeMn , etc) and oxides ( Ferrite, magnetite, etc) then we have to play in the lower intensity zone and no machine is availalbe in this area.
