We were currently working on the removal of a cationic dye using a low cost adsorbent in its carbonized form. we were successful in removing the dye accurately up to 99.99%. but while calculating the Qmax value we are getting a very lower value. kindly help us in knowing the reason.
Two things to take into account. Adsorption is governed by adsorption isotherms. When its concentration is low, the adsorption capacity is low.
If you use the batch process, you will reach the equilibrium provided by the adsorption isotherm. The only way to shift the balance is to use a fixed bed adsorption vessel or series CSTR (3 to 7).
If you removed almost 100 % you may not reached the maximum removal capacity. Try to increase the concertation or volume used and when the removal % will 50-70 % from the initial concentration calculate qmax
