The structure and properties of graphene oxide depend on particular synthesis method and degree of oxidation. The nature of the functional groups of GO flakes suspended in aqueous solution is different from that of the same flakes placed on a solid substrate . The detailed chemical structure of GO is still not understood due to the strong disorder and irregular packing of the layers.
