I want to know the reaction mechanism of monoethanol amine used as flocculating agent for rerefining used lubricating oil. Here I have attached one research paper where MEA (monoethanolamine) is used as flocculating agent. Can anyone help me to find out what is the possible reaction mechanism for the above flocculating agent?

Here I know that this monoethanol amine is a strong base and it usually reacts with organic, inorganic acids and anhydrides to form salts which usually agglutinate to form large particles which usually settle down... That is it's flocculting property as is done in waste water management...
