ITDs depend on low frequencies and yet white noise encompasses all frequencies. How can researchers who use white noise, accurately distinguish the directional cues (ITDs/ ILDs) of a listener ? I came across some research last night which argued that white noise eliminates the precedence effect. As the precedence effect strengthens a persons sense of localisation, what is the point in consciously reducing it ?! I've read a lot of literature regarding the use of white noise in sound localisation experiments, but very little in justifying it. Any ideas, feedback etc much appreciated.
Thank you.
