Deuterium Oxide ( deteriorated water ) usually they add it to a solution contain TMS of a compound it's NMR was measured ,they do that to conform the presence of OH or NH or to eliminate any signal due to NH or OH present in NMR spectrum of a compound.. Good Luck

This said, when a sample using D2O as solvent is "laced" with a very tiny drop of TMS, it will produce a detectable peak. After all, a sample is not D2O but D2O+something, and even in D2O the solubility is not EXACT zero. Even 0.0001 % is sufficient to produce a detectable peak.
