Acidification in metal qualitative/quantitative analysis is usually carried out to dissolve any undesired precipitate of the target metal. This will release the metal ions for subsequent desirable precipitation reaction or any other analysis

When analysing the presence of antimony, does having excess sodium nitrite produce similar color change?
Hey Leah, just add iron (nail with scratched surface) to your sample and see if your Antimony precipitates.

Edelmann Melchior Menzel in the table given to us, there are two tests we can do to test the presence of antimony, one is by testing it on a silver a coin and the other by adding NaNO2 3F HCl and C25H31O3N2Cl on the centrifugate. Although it is not explained why there is a need to add sodium nitrite.
Well, it reduces the Antimony. Just like the iron does.
The best way to detect Antimony is the Marsh test. It also detects Arsenic, but the black precipitate can be distinguished further.
