Assessment of learning has multi-dimensional uses. Besides assessing performance of students in learning , it can throw light on the efficacy of instructional objectives, suitability of curriculum, effectiveness of methods of transaction in and out of classroom and teaching learning materials such as textbooks, audio video ,lab kits. It can give feedback even about the assessment techniques. In addition to end of term assessment , it is essential that it is integrated with teaching -learning process .
International organizations often carry out assessments in order to measure the achievements and gap, and based on that to take actions in the form of projects. Most international organizations including World Bank, UNESCO and UNICEF manage big educational projects in different countries; assessment is often undertaken to measure the performance of these projects.

Int'l organisations need to do assessments to guage their performance against their competitors, and as pointed earlier, take corrective action to ensure they remain competitive.
Instant feedback of the assessment results to parents/guardians, children and local leaders; communication through the media and other forms to create broad public debate and engagement; facilitating thoughtful monitoring, external evaluation and learning throughout whose lessons are feedback into the work, as well as shared globally; and repeating the above cycle each year to create sustained momentum for change. The scale of Uwezo’s reach – covering hundreds of thousands of households – coupled with the simplicity of its assessment tool, annual recurrence, and wide communication has created an unprecedented level of focus on the question of basic competencies across the region. Uwezo has generated new information on children’s literacy and numeracy across East Africa. There has been widespread exposure to the findings, which has triggered an array of reactions. Going by media reports and conversations with citizens, there is a heightened awareness on the poor state of learning and the necessity of refocusing on competencies. After initial resistance, governments, policy makers and politicians too have come around to accepting that school quality needs serious improvement.
I think learning assessment can help the international organisations to assess and identify their weak points and deficiencies in order to be able to improve and be promoted according to international standards in terms of human power, technology, quality service, etc.
Two processes allow us to ascertain whether or not we are successful as educators: Evaluation methods that use feedback techniques, and control methods that gauge whether decisions reached via the evaluation process are properly implemented.
In order to guide students or organizationa from their present position to the point of fulfillment, we, as educators, must provide continuous evaluation, feedback and control of the processes they are undergoing. There are three important processes:
1. Evaluation: There are two basic types. Formative evaluation begins at the same point as the program and lasts throughout the course. The goal of such an evaluation is to provide continuous improvement as the program progresses. Summative evaluation takes place at the end of a program and measures its success.
2. Feedback: The feedback process derives conclusions from the evaluation process, and suggests ways of putting these conclusions into action. Feedback provides a mode of communication within an organization. It is a form of expression for the concerns and attitudes of the school’s staff, students and parents. Through it conclusions can be reached regarding internal and external school processes. Possible solutions or improvements can then be suggested.
3. Control: Serves to guarantee that decisions made as a result of evaluation and feedback are properly carried out.
How does control verify that excellence has in fact been reached? Here we use five criteria for a project’s success: relevance with respect to predefined goals, the efficacy of goal fulfillment, resource usage efficiency, the impact on the client and the project’s continuity.
